Below is an updated list of alcohol rehabilitation programs in New Zealand for 2025. The alcohol rehab list includes facilities offering both residential and outpatient programs. Outpatient options are suitable for individuals managing work or family responsibilities who are unable to commit to extended residential stays at live-in rehabilitation centers. Most providers are included in the alcohol rehab list for 2025. Some of the rehabs provide medical detox, while others offer only addiction rehabilitation services. We have categorized the rehabs into government-funded and private alcohol rehabs. 

Salvation Army Bridge Program - Funded

The Salvation Army Bridge Program provides a range of effective support services that help reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs in people’s lives. 

 

We provide tāngata whaiora (people seeking wellness) and their whānau (family) with a safe place to belong where personal choice is encouraged and supported. We provide recovery information and practical tools communicated in meaningful ways which are culturally appropriate that supports healthy wellbeing. 

 

Bridge services are supported by a range of professional kaimahi (staff) who bring a combination of clinical knowledge, cultural worldviews, and lived experience who work with our tāngata and whānau to provide a variety of wrap-around support services.

 

The University of Otago study Testing the Bridge (2015) found that the Bridge services provided evidence-based, world-class treatment and continuing care for people affected by their harmful use of alcohol or other drugs (Testing the Bridge 2015).

Odyssey House Trust - Funded

Odyssey House Trust Christchurch provides therapeutic support and education to clients with

drug and alcohol addictions. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing (Life quality) of individuals, family and community affected by addiction, mental health and related issues.

St Marks Rehab - Funded

All referrals for Mt Marks come through Community Alcohol and Drug (CADs) services and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) throughout the South Island. To gain admission to St Marks, tāngata whai ora need to contact their local CADs or NGO in order to begin the enrolment process. These services will determine suitability to our programme. A comprehensive assessment is then sent to the clinical team at St Marks for processing and if accepted, we will ask for some more information, once received, a date of entry is given.

 

The referrer and the tangata whai ora together read the St Marks Information Booklet which outlines conditions of entry, rules, financial commitment and the philosophy of the programme.

 

Tāngata whai ora sign that they have understood and agreed to the conditions of entry. Please remember we are a smoke (and vape) free service, and whilst in the juinior phase (4 weeks) mobile phones are only allowed once per week, and there are no visitors or leaving the premises unless sanctioned…Why? 

 

We want you to have your head in the programme, without distractions, until you are settled. Once settled and out of the junior phase, there is more freedom, and, more responsibility.

The Kensington Clinic - Private Outpatient Program ( Zoom )

The Kensington Clinic confidential outpatient program lasts for six weeks. Our program is designed for working people dealing with alcohol addiction. They will work One-on-one with a trained alcohol counselor and sober coach. Our program is based around working hours.

 

The Kensington Clinic employs a solution-focused approach to counseling, effectively integrating talk therapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This therapeutic methodology is specifically designed to assist individuals in managing various mental health conditions by transforming their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

 

We place a significant emphasis on identifying personalized solutions tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Furthermore, our addiction counselors not only possess professional training but also embody lived experiences, which provides a depth of understanding that distinguishes our services from many addiction counseling providers in New Zealand. 

 

Our services are confidential, and we offer appointments outside of traditional working hours.

Capri Sanctuary Rehab - Private

Problematic or dependent consumption of alcohol can be devastating, impacting everything that is important in life. Physical healthmental health, significant relationships, employment performance, and the self-relationship to name but a few aspects of life affected. It can be characterised by an uncontrollable preoccupation and compulsion to consume alcohol. The physical and psychological withdrawal syndromes are significant maintaining factors.

If you have a developed dependence on alcohol, you may experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop drinking. It is not recommended that an individual who has developed a physiological dependence stops drinking, unless under medical supervision due to the risk of seizure or other medical complications. Withdrawal symptoms can be physical and psychological.

Clinic 77 Rehab - Private

Clinic 77 is a private AOD (Alcohol and other drugs) outpatient treatment clinic based in East Auckland.
We offer individual counselling/psychotherapy and/or group therapy and five different intensive outpatient treatment programmes to those who are dependent on a substance (be it alcohol, drugs or prescription medication). We understand that people from all walks of life can suffer from addiction therefore we offer a discreet, confidential, caring environment designed to support you 
on your recovery journey. 

 

Our clinicians are highly qualified professionals with over 10 years specialised professional experience. We also have clinical staff that has over 20 years of personally lived experience. Our service specialises in supporting and treating addiction in an organised, non-residential treatment setting. The programmes are designed to accommodate clients’ work and personal schedules while still adhering to a regular, intensive treatment plan. They do not include medical detoxification and typically offer an array of services for 10-12 hours per week. Our clinic will refer you to the appropriate medical detoxification service or residential facility when and if needed.
